چکیده

This study demonstrates that in mountainous areas the use of residual terrain model (RTM) data significantly improves the accuracy of vertical deflections obtained from high-degree spherical harmonic synthesis. The new Earth gravitational model EGM2008 is used to compute vertical deflections up to a spherical harmonic degree of 2160. RTM data can be constructed as difference between high-resolution SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) elevation data and the terrain model DTM2006.0 (a spherical harmonic terrain model that complements EGM2008) providing the long-wavelength reference surface. Because these RTM elevations imply most of C. Efficient and accurate high-degree spherical harmonic synthesis of gravity field functionals at the Earth’s surface using the gradient approach

Spherical harmonic synthesis (SHS) of gravity field functionals at the Earth’s surface requires the use of heights. The present study investigates the gradient approach as an efficient yet accurate strategy to incorporate height information in SHS at densely-spaced multiple points. Taylor series expansions of commonly used functionals quasigeoid heights, gravity disturbances and vertical deflec...

Study of the Earth ’ s short - scale gravity field using the 4 ERTM 2160 gravity model

39 This paper describes the computation and analysis of the Earth's short-scale gravity field 40 through high-resolution gravity forward modelling using the Shuttle Radar Topography 41 Mission (SRTM) global topography model. We use the established residual terrain modelling 42 technique along with advanced computational resources and massive parallelisation to 43 convert the high-pass filtered ...

Evaluation of the first GOCE static gravity field models using terrestrial gravity, vertical deflections and EGM2008 quasigeoid heights

Recently, four global geopotential models (GGMs) were computed and released based on the first two months of data collected by the GOCE (Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer) dedicated satellite gravity field mission. Given that GOCE is a technologically complex mission and different processing strategies were applied to real space-collected GOCE data for the first time, ev...

RTM gravity forward-modeling using topography/bathymetry data to improve high-degree global geopotential models in the coastal zone

We apply the residual terrain modeling (RTM) technique for gravity forward-modeling to successfully improve high-resolution global gravity fields at short spatial scales in coastal zones. The RTM scheme is combined with the concept of rock-equivalent topography, allowing to use a single uniform constant mass-density in the RTM forward-modeling, both at land and sea. SRTM30_PLUS bathymetry is me...

Combining EGM2008 and SRTM/DTM2006

SRTM/DTM2006.0 residual terrain model data to improve quasigeoid computations in mountainous areas devoid of gravity data, Journal of Geodesy 84(9): 557-567. Abstract: A global geopotential model, like EGM2008, is not capable of representing the high-frequency components of Earth's gravity field. This is known as the omission error. In mountainous terrain, omission errors in EGM2008, even when ...
